LG Electronics introduced 3F (Fit, Feel, Finish) in 2001 as its core customer-centric design philosophy — a principle so deeply embedded in the company's culture that a dedicated 3F organization now collaborates across product planning, design, development, quality control, and sales.
The HS 3F Technology Team, operating within the HS Applied Technology Lab focuses specifically on the manufacturing engineering and quality assurance dimensions of 3F.
Our mission is to ensure that the Fit, Feel, and Finish qualities that LG designs into the world's best home appliances are reliably achieved, consistently replicated, and continuously improved across the entire global manufacturing footprint — from component-level quality to finished-product excellence.
We are the technical bridge between design intent and production reality, validating that "what the customer touches and sees" meets LG's uncompromising standards at every production batch and every assembly line.

Responsibilities
Fit — Dimensional Accuracy & Assembly Conformity
Gap & Flush Analysis: Define and manage dimensional tolerances for critical gaps between components and assemblies (e.g., door-to-body alignment, drawer stacking, control panel flushness); implement statistical process control (SPC) frameworks.
Dimensional Metrology: Operate and manage CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines), laser scanners, and optical measurement systems; analyze GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) per ASME Y14.5.
Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis: Lead tolerance analysis across the supply chain to identify root causes of fit deviations and drive corrective actions in design and manufacturing.
Process Capability Studies: Establish and maintain Cp/Cpk metrics for critical-fit dimensions; escalate capability concerns through the quality management system.
Feel — Tactile Performance & Operational Quality
Surface Texture Standards: Define and manage surface roughness parameters (Ra, Rz) for touchpoints, control interfaces, handles, and movable components; validate through profilometry and comparison methods.
Ergonomic & Haptic Validation: Develop and execute testing protocols for knob torque, button click force, slider resistance, door-opening force, and other tactile user interfaces; create pass/fail criteria and limit diagrams.

Wear & Durability of Touch Surfaces: Design accelerated life tests for decorative and functional surfaces to evaluate scratch resistance, UV discoloration, and abrasion over time; correlate test data to field failure modes.
Operator Touchpoint Analysis: Evaluate the "first touch" quality of product assemblies — ensuring every component that customers handle delivers the premium, resilient experience LG demands compatibility.
Finish — Color, Material & Aesthetic Consistency
Color Quality Management: Implement spectrophotometric color measurement (L*a*b values, ΔE tolerance analysis) across all product finishes; manage color matching between injection-molded plastics, painted metals, coated glass, and printed substrates.
Gloss & Shear Measurement: Establish gloss level standards (20°, 60°, 85° geometry) across product families; monitor batch-to-batch and line-to-line variation.
Aesthetic Defect Classification: Develop visual inspection standards and defect classification matrices (cosmetic vs. structural defects) for all HS product categories; train inspector teams on objective acceptance criteria.
Material-Finish Compatibility: Evaluate new materials and surface treatments (powder coatings, anodizing, PVD, textured films, soft-touch lacquers) for finish quality and process compatibility before program approval.
Lighting & Viewing Standardization: Define standardized viewing conditions (light boxes — D65, TL84, F11) to ensure consistent visual judgment across all quality inspection points, from factory floor to customer service centers
Cross-Functional Collaboration & System Integration
Partner with the HS Design Lab to translate design specifications into measurable manufacturing quality targets, including the development of custom 3F measurement instrumentation when off-the-shelf tools are insufficientlg.com.
Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on 3F control plans, PFMEA, and control plans; integrate 3F checkpoints into daily production inspections (DPI, IPQC, FQC).
Support Supplier Quality Engineering in establishing 3F quality requirements at Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers; conduct 3F quality audits and supplier training programs globally.
Work with AI/Smart Factory Teams to develop automated visual inspection (AOI) systems, machine learning-based cosmetic defect detection, and real-time 3F quality dashboards.
Contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) gates by authorizing 3F quality review documentation — including 3F capability reports, limit sample records, and visual assessment reports — required before program start.
Continuous Improvement & Standards
Drive 3F quality KPIs (First Pass Yield for Fit, Visual Rework Rate for Finish, Tactile Customer Complaints Rate) and lead kaizen initiatives to reduce defect rates.
Maintain and update the 3F Quality Standard Library — centralized documentation of acceptable ranges for fit tolerances, feel parameters, and finish attributes across all HS product lines.
Monitor and incorporate industry benchmarking (luxury goods standards, automotive interior quality norms, consumer electronics benchmarks) to continuously raise LG's 3F bar.
Technical Requirements
M.Tech (Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Ergonomics, Manufacturing Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field) ideally from reputed institutes (NITs / IITs).
3+ years of relevant experience in quality engineering, dimensional metrology, surface quality, or manufacturing quality assurance in the consumer electronics or home appliance industry
Technical Skills — Fit- Proficiency with CMMs, laser trackers, 3D scanning, and vision-based dimensional inspection systems; strong GD&T knowledge (ASME Y14.5); experience in tolerance stack-up analysis and SPC
Technical Skills — Finish- Expertise in spectrophotometric color measurement, gloss measurement, and visual inspection systems; understanding of coating technologies, paint/color matching, and material appearance characterization
ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt preferred
Fluent in Business-level English; Korean language skills are a plus
Core Competencies and Working Attitude
Quantitative Precision: Comfortable working across multiple measurement modalities — from micrometer-level dimensional data to ΔE color difference values and Ra roughness numbers.
