Job Purpose

The Senior Commissioning Engineer is a technical authority and leader within the commissioning project team.

The role supports project managers with scope delivery and provides training and coaching to team members.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant MEP, building services, or electrical engineering degree, diploma, certificate, trade qualification, or equivalent credential is required.
  • Minimum experience is 8 years with an engineering degree, 10 years with a college diploma, or 12 years with a college or trade certificate.
  • Data center experience is essential.
  • Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, CSA Grade 5, or Certified Commissioning Authority credentials are desirable but not essential.

Commissioning and Compliance

  • Independently conduct site inspections in the selected discipline.
  • Review design information, tolerances, methods of working, test procedures, and recorded results.
  • Assess compliance with project specifications and industry codes of practice.
  • Review documentation and report issues clearly, accurately, and concisely.

Site and Project Delivery

  • Liaise with contractors’ commissioning teams and conduct site observations on installation quality.
  • Produce high-quality documentation, including Site Observation Reports.
  • Monitor installations, submittals, and engineering tools against project and commissioning guidelines.
  • Participate in meetings and workshops and assist with commissioning design reviews when requested.

Leadership and Reporting

  • Act as a technical authority and leader within the project team and division.
  • Support, mentor, and train colleagues.
  • Track task completion, prepare lookaheads and milestone trackers, and maintain a daily diary of project events and decisions.
  • Produce detail-oriented documentation with recommendations and considerations.
