Role Overview
Senior Civil/Structural Substation Design Engineer supporting AWS data centers and associated grid infrastructure.
The role focuses on designing, permitting, and building high-voltage and medium-voltage substations and grid connections.
The engineer will provide technical guidance, solve large-scale implementation issues, and support international CSA design requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead civil, structural, and architectural scope for HV/MV substations and grid connection projects.
- Develop bases of design, prototype designs, and template specifications.
- Manage the HV/MV design project portfolio and external design consultants.
- Coordinate substation site layouts with high-voltage and electrical engineers.
- Act as the owner’s representative during design and construction administration.
- Review civil, structural, and architectural designs and their calculation assumptions.
- Prepare building permit strategies and liaise with authorities having jurisdiction and energy utilities.
- Coordinate with MEP engineers, quantity surveyors, construction managers, technical program managers, and related disciplines.
- Lead initiatives improving cost, quality, schedule, and design consistency.
- Travel for site assessments, consultant selection, design meetings, construction reviews, and stakeholder interfaces; anticipated travel is not more than 25%.
