Role Overview

CAD and Design Responsibilities

• Use AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other design software to produce and develop engineering drawings.
• Develop layouts, labelling, dimensioning, sheet layouts, design details, and other CAD concepts according to defined standards.
• Read and interpret 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models to support engineering investigations.
• Produce plans, sections, and details from engineers' sketches through to full working drawings.
• Coordinate design and drawing production with project design teams.

Coordination and Quality

• Manage multiple projects and accurately estimate the time needed for assigned scopes of work.
• Help establish, maintain, and enforce CAD standards and procedures.
• Review work produced by others to ensure high-quality CAD output.
• Supervise and coordinate CAD output in a multidisciplinary project environment.

Experience and Qualifications

• An ITI or Diploma-level qualification in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification is required.
• The role requires 8–12 years or more of relevant postgraduate experience.
• Autodesk AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation user certification is required.
• Working toward a recognized professional qualification such as EngTech is required.

Technical Knowledge

• UK project experience and working knowledge of UK design standards are required.
• Relevant guidance may include DMRB, MfS, TSRGD, HCD, and IAN 184.
• The role requires knowledge of BIM and CAD standards for civil engineering projects.
• Proficiency in standard office software is required.

Desired Skills

• Basic design knowledge using Civil 3D is desirable.
• Awareness of Revit software is desirable.
• Good written and verbal communication skills are required.

Health and Safety

• The role requires adherence to relevant health and safety policies, including the health and safety policy and manuals.
