Qualifications
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping production systems that real users depend on.
- End-to-end product ownership. You have shipped features that span AI backend, API layer, and user interface, and you hold yourself accountable for how well they work in production.
- Strong proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience building LLM-powered systems and AI backend services.
- React fundamentals — component architecture, state management, performance, accessibility — including AI-specific patterns such as streaming responses and real-time feedback.
- Experience building production-grade backend APIs in Python, Java (Kotlin) or Node.JS — REST design, authentication, error handling, and scalability under real load.
- Working proficiency with PostgreSQL: schema design, query optimisation, and using relational data to support AI product features.
- Working knowledge of where large language models break in production — hallucination, context degradation, latency, calibration — and how to design around it.
- Practical use of AI coding agents — Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, or equivalent — as a core part of your engineering workflow.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: system design, testing, debugging, and performance optimisation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, or CrewAI — and a view on when each is and is not the right call.
- Experience designing and consuming streaming APIs (SSE, WebSockets) to power real-time AI response UIs.
- Strong in the React ecosystem: Next.js, TailwindCSS, TanStack Query, Zustand or similar, and modern component libraries.
- Experience deploying AI applications on cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred), including containerised services.
- Familiarity with cloud coding agent workflows — running agents in sandboxed environments, delegating multi-step engineering tasks, and integrating them into team workflows — is a plus.
- Experience delivering software in a government, public sector, defence, financial services, or other highly regulated environment
