Description

Association Headquarters is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting activities while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role owns the monthly close process, prepares and reviews complex accounting transactions, analyzes financial results, and mentors junior accounting staff.

Working closely with the Controller and CFO, the Senior Accountant serves as a technical accounting resource and plays a key role in maintaining strong internal controls, improving accounting processes, and delivering timely, accurate financial information.

Essential Functions:

Own the monthly and year-end close process for assigned entities, ensuring financial statements are completed accurately and on schedule.

Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for balance sheet and income statement accounts.

Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.

Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and other financial analyses as requested.

Review the work of Junior Staff Accountants, providing guidance, coaching, and technical support to ensure accuracy and professional development.

Ensure the completeness and accuracy of accounting transactions recorded within NetSuite and other integrated financial systems.

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and other financial planning activities.

Coordinate audit requests and prepare supporting documentation for external auditors, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.

Maintain compliance with GAAP, company accounting policies, and internal controls.

Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, automate workflows, and enhance operational efficiency.

Collaborate with cross-functional departments to resolve accounting issues and support business initiatives.

Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and full-cycle accounting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, financial analysis).
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Preferred
  • CPA/CMA or CPA/CMA candidate.
  • Experience with NetSuite, Ramp, UKG or similar ERP.
  • Experience within nonprofit, association management, or professional services organizations.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior accounting staff.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and audit coordination.
