Henpen Corporation is seeking a mid-level Rust Software Engineer.

The role supports high-performance software for simulation, optimization, and decision support in mission-focused environments.

The engineer will turn complex algorithms and research into reliable, performant production software.

Role details

  • The position is located in Reston, Virginia.
  • An active Secret security clearance is required.

What you'll do

  • Develop and maintain production software in a large Rust codebase.
  • Design and optimize performance-sensitive algorithms and computational workloads.
  • Build backend services using Axum and Tokio or similar technologies.
  • Integrate software with databases, frontend applications, APIs, and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and end users to translate complex technical concepts into practical software.
  • Evolve research-driven capabilities into scalable and maintainable production systems.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, applied mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • At least three years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience developing production-grade, performance-sensitive software in Rust.
  • Experience developing backend services with Axum or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with asynchronous programming, preferably using Tokio.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience across the software stack, including familiarity with web application development.
  • Ability to collaborate with researchers, engineers, and end users.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active Secret security clearance.

Preferred qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Experience with Java, Python, TypeScript, or React.
  • Experience developing highly optimized parallel or concurrent software.
  • Experience with GPU programming or acceleration.
  • Background in simulation, optimization, scientific computing, or other computationally intensive applications.
