Provide safe and compassionate nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgery.
Assist with the preparation and setup of operating rooms for surgical procedures.
Perform circulating and/or scrub duties within scope of practice and demonstrated competency.
Assist with patient positioning, surgical preparation, and transfer.
Maintain aseptic technique and strict infection prevention and control standards.
Prepare and handle surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
Complete surgical counts and required perioperative documentation.
Monitor patient status and promptly communicate changes to the appropriate healthcare team.
Administer medications and treatments within scope of practice and organizational policies.
Support safe patient identification, surgical site verification, and other surgical safety processes.
Ensure equipment and supplies are appropriately cleaned, maintained, and available for procedures.
Participate in quality improvement, education, and ongoing professional development.
Collaborate effectively with physicians and the multidisciplinary perioperative team.
Perform other nursing duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
RPN with current Certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario
Operating Room certification from an accredited college program– Certificate required
Current BCLS certification is required
Proven focus to provide excellent patient care, in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner
Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary team of care providers, with emphasis on assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of patient health

2-4 years' recent experience in an acute care setting in the Surgical Suite / Ambulatory environment that includes and not limited to assisting, scrubbing /circulating and /or /providing retraction / abdominal thrust for procedures of the operating room, and ambulatory services, as well as services of endoscopy, urology and minor surgery – required
Ability to work independently within the Surgical /Ambulatory services environment to maintain patient flow
Demonstrated knowledge of surgical / ambulatory procedures (including set up) and the continuum of care for the surgical patient that includes the pre-intra-post surgery patient experience
Must be capable to set up and care for minor and major surgery procedures and anticipate the needs of patients and physicians
Proven motivation to pursue educational goals
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team
Implement plan of care including independent and interdependent nursing functions
Assessing and understanding the unique needs of the surgical patient
Strong proficiency and willingness to work at the full scope of practice (as outlined by CNO)
