Date Posted: 09/15/2026 Req ID: 50191 Faculty/Division: Temerty Faculty of Medicine Department: Department of Nutritional Sciences Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto) Existing Vacancy: Yes Description: The Department of Nutritional Sciences/Joannah and Brian Lawson Centre for Child Nutrition invites applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) appointment. The successful applicant must have the following qualifications: PhD in Nutritional Sciences with a strong background in Public Health Policy and at least two (2) years of postdoctoral experience and project management with demonstrated research excellence in individual and population-level dietary assessment to inform public health nutrition policy (e.g. nutritional surveillance of food supply, nutritional labelling, food marketing, advanced methods in nutrient profiling).; Excellence is to be demonstrated through publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals in nutrition, public health policy, and/or related fields. Demonstrated expertise in use of national nutrition surveys, consumer research studies (nutritional literacy, behaviour and use of digital technology), randomized controlled trials and statistical analysis of such study designs, including application of artificial intelligence/machine learning. Demonstrated experience with children’s food and nutrition policy (e.g. marketing to kids, nutrition standards/claims, and intake assessments). Demonstrated experience providing direction to students, junior researchers and trainees is an asset. Demonstrated proficiency in software including SAS, R-Studio, SPSS and MS Applications is required. It is also essential that the candidate holds co-investigator status on tri-council grants and highlight their ability to work independently and/or on teams through publications; experience presenting research at national and international conferences (as evidenced through invited seminars/talks); experience writing grants, research ethics protocols, research proposals and organizing nutrition workshop/conferences/etc.; experience supervising students in research. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with ability to work independently, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and excellent time-management skills to coordinate multiple projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be a team player in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Designing, planning and executing research projects independently; Managing projects; Co-ordinating research efforts with collaborators and teams; Preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications/journals; Writing and assisting with grant submissions; Presenting findings to research peers and collaborators at national or international conferences; Maintaining proper documentation of all relevant data and analysis (electronic lab notebooks, reports, etc.). Travel: Limited. The Research Associate will be expected to present research at academic national or international conferences. Limited Notes: This is a 1-year appointment, with the possibility of extension, depending on approval of supervisor based on funding. All qualified incumbents are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
