About the role

ABB is seeking an experienced electric motor design engineer to drive technical excellence and innovation.

The role reports to an Engineering Manager and follows an onsite work model.

The engineer will solve complex challenges, mentor junior team members, lead design optimization, manage testing, and collaborate across teams.

Role responsibilities

  • Design and analyze electric motors using FEA and closed-form solutions.
  • Perform airflow, vibration, and sound level analysis and validate improvements.
  • Lead design initiatives focused on manufacturing considerations, cost reduction, testing, and validation.
  • Create documentation, detailed drawings, BOMs, and engineering records and support design changes.
  • Collaborate across technical and functional teams, generate IP, document findings, and translate business drivers into technical solutions.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to R&D initiatives that deliver customer-focused products.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering and eight or more years of electric motor or rotating equipment design experience.
  • Knowledge of advanced design methodologies, FEA, manufacturing processes, and customer support.
  • Ability to create accurate documentation, detailed drawings, BOMs, and engineering records.
  • Strong mechanical performance fundamentals and knowledge of die casting, machining, stamping, plastic molding, and fabrication.
  • Proficiency in engineering analysis, data reporting, and technical presentations.

Preferred experience

  • Lean Six Sigma or PMP certification, SAP, Ansys, and SolidWorks CSWP are preferred.
  • Working knowledge of UL, CSA, CE, IEEE, IEC, and NEMA regulatory compliance is preferred.
