LOCATION
- Remote / Contractor facility, with occasional coordination at VA Central Office (Washington, D.C.) and limited program-related travel as required
Position Description:
The Quantum Computing/Cryptography Engineer will lead Excentium's support for VA's cryptographic modernization and post-quantum readiness efforts under this program — assessing the organization's cryptographic inventory, advising on migration strategies to quantum-resistant algorithms, and supporting policy and technical guidance for cryptographic standards adoption across the enterprise.
Position Requirements:
- 10+ years of IT experience, including 5+ years focused on quantum computing and cryptography at a large corporation or federal agency of comparable scale. A Master's degree in a related IT field may substitute for up to 2 years of the required experience.
- Expertise in quantum mechanics, quantum algorithms, and quantum information theory, with experience in quantum programming languages/frameworks (e.g., Qiskit, Cirq).
- Expertise in cryptographic protocols, public-key infrastructure (PKI), and post-quantum cryptography, including NIST PQC standards (FIPS 203, 204, 205).
- Experience assessing organizational cryptographic inventory, identifying migration priorities, and communicating quantum risk to non-technical leadership.
Educational Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Assurance, Information Security, Information Resource Management, or a related field.
- A current certification satisfying DoD 8570/8140 workforce requirements at IAT Level III, IAM Level III, or IASAE Level III. IAT, IAM, and IASAE are qualification levels, not certifications in themselves — each level is satisfied by an approved certification such as CISSP, CASP+ CE, CISA, CISM, CCISO, GCIH, or CSSLP, depending on the level and category.
Desired Certifications:
Relevant cryptography or PKI certification
Programming proficiency in Python, C++, or Java
