Overview
The Quality Engineer is responsible for improving the quality of products by working with Design, Manufacturing, and other functions to identify sources of variation and defects and develop preventative controls. The Quality Engineer leads the development and implementation of quality processes, improves production efficiency, minimizes the cost of poor quality, and ensures products meet all customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and define process control requirements and measurement systems; create and improve control plans
- Identify sources of variation that result in defects and customer complaints, using variation reduction tools
- Work collaboratively with product development teams in the Product Development Quality Engineer role to identify and prevent defects prior to production
- Lead problem solving with all levels of the organization, including Engineering and Manufacturing, using disciplined methods such as 8D
- Develop sampling plans, quality standards, and process control instructions for use by manufacturing in monitoring and reducing variation
- Serve as Internal Auditor; audit quality processes to ensure compliance and lead teams to develop corrective actions for non-conformances
- Assist in the development of global quality processes and procedures to create effective and standardized work practices
- Serve as internal consultant for metrology and measurement needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
