Summary
The role supports the Bank’s climate risk and financed emissions efforts by enhancing Scope 3 methodologies, developing and tracking sector-specific pathways and climate targets.
The role also contributes to scenario analysis, internal reporting, external disclosures, and the management of physical, transition, and nature-related risks ensuring compliance with climate risk regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
• Shareholder & Financial
- Ensure that Climate Risk governance and practices (e.g. framework, policies, scenario analysis) support the overall ratings and reputation of the Group.
- Computing and improving Scope 3 financed emissions methodologies, developing and monitoring sector-specific pathways with interim targets
- Provide executional support for climate scenario analysis, interpreting and communicating key findings and contributing to external climate risk-related disclosures.
- Support and execute activities pertaining to the identification, evaluation and mitigation of both physical and transition climate and nature risks
- Implements KPI’s and best practices for the oversight of the financial risks stemming from climate and nature-related drivers.
- Promote cost consciousness and efficiency and enhance productivity, to minimise cost, avoid waste, and optimise benefits for the bank.
- Support the Board in identification of emerging scenarios and communication of related climate and nature risk impacts.
- Executional support for international entities and branches to seek firm-wide alignment to Group prescribed risk management frameworks, policies and procedures.
- Ensure that risk processes are well documented and policies are in place to control and provide the foundation for sound risk taking activities of the Group.
- Build relationships with various departments across the Bank to integrate climate and nature considerations into relevant aspects of the business.
B. Customer (Internal & External)
- Serve as a central point of contact for the financial risk implications for climate and nature risk across the Group.
- Liaise with stakeholders across risk disciplines to support the implementation of climate and nature risk frameworks. Maintain activities in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with international branches/entities to achieve improvements in turn-around time.
- Build and maintain strong/effective relationships with related departments/units to achieve the Group’s objectives.
- Provide timely/accurate data to external/internal Auditors, Compliance, Financial Control and Risk when required.
C. Internal (Processes, Products, Regulatory)
- Support the development and implementation of a framework for identifying, measuring, monitoring and managing the financial risk from climate and nature aspects in line with regulatory expectations
- Draft and develop governance materials and risk framework documentation
- Coordinate integration of climate and nature risk into core governance frameworks and processes such as portfolio analysis, risk appetite and ICAAP
- Partner with risk management teams (e.g. Credit Portfolio Management, Liquidity Risk) to drive portfolio analysis capabilities
- Review the output of the Stress Testing / scoring tool models and engage with Credit Approvers on determining the best course of actions for customer identified as presenting a high climate or nature risk.
- Provide risk input into sustainability and climate risk disclosures (e.g. IFRS S1 and S2)
- Develop expertise in the following areas: the drivers of Climate Change including how it affects economies and corporations, governmental and regulatory responses to Climate Change and emerging thought over how to measure and manage Climate Risk from a financial loss perspective

- Possess strong business skill set and experience in developing and working with best practices in risk policies.

E. Legal, Regulatory, and Risk Framework Responsibilities
- Comply with all applicable legal, regulatory and internal compliance requirements including, but not limited to, Group Compliance Policies and Procedures (AML & CTF, Sanctions Policy, Data Protection Policy, Fraud Control Policy, Whistle Blowing Policy, Conflict of Interest and Insider Dealing Policy).
- Understand and effectively perform your role under the Three Lines of Defence principle to identify measure, monitor, manage and report risks.
- Ensure systematic good outcomes for clients in accordance with Conduct Risk policy.
- Support the framework of RCSA, KRI, Incident reporting and remediation, as appropriate, in accordance with the Operational Risk Management requirements.
- Maintain appropriate knowledge to ensure full qualification to undertake the role.
- Complete all mandatory training provided by the Bank, attain, and maintain the required levels of competence.
- Attend mandatory (internal and external) seminars as instructed by the Bank.
F. Other
- Ensure high standards of data protection and confidentiality to safeguard commercially sensitive information.
- Maintaining utmost confidentiality concerning customer and internal bank information obtained during the course of business and provide such information on a need to know basis only to Senior Management of QNB, Audit and Compliance functions, and relevant Regulators.
- Maintain high professional standards to uphold QNB's reputation and to strengthen its market leadership position.
- All other ad hoc duties/activities related to QNB that management might request from time to time.
Education & Experience Requirements
- University graduate preferably with a Major in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or related field of study (Masters preferred). Relevant professional certifications will be an added advantage (e.g. GARP Sustainability and Climate Risk).
- At least 10 years of relevant banking experience, preferably within a highly rated international bank, and in a managerial capacity
- Direct experience with developing, deploying and enhancing climate and nature risk measurement and management frameworks including net-zero experience
