JOB BAND: C CONTRACT TYPE: Continuing DEPARTMENT: Communications LOCATION: London Broadcasting House PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,000-£52,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. The successful candidate will also receive £5,441 London Weighting Allowance.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE This is a rare opportunity to lead as a publicist within the Communications team, working on BBC Radio 2 within the Radio 2, BBC Radio 6 Music and Pop Music TV team. Longer term, you may work on a wider range of programming across the department. This is a fantastic role for a very experienced, creative and enthusiastic comms professional with a passion for pop music, entertainment and radio. The successful candidate will promote a wide range of world-exclusive programming, including Radio 2 in the Park, Radio 2 Piano Room and 21st Century Folk, as well as a variety of outside broadcasts and special events. WHY JOIN THE TEAM This role contributes to the success of Radio 2, the UK’s biggest single radio station (12.4m weekly listeners), which is home to the UK’s most loved presenters, including Sara Cox, Vernon Kay, Jeremy Vine, Trevor Nelson, Jo Whiley, Rylan and Romesh Ranganathan. The station targets at a 35+ audience, combining pop music and culture with specialist music, arts and current affairs programming, so the day job is varied and interesting – and no two days are the same. The candidate has the chance to work on impactful content to a huge audience, whilst gaining invaluable experience. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT: As a publicist in the content team you will: Be the first point of contact for incoming press queries, ranging for schedule queries, news stories, advance programming and feature requests. Lead on publicity campaigns across online, print, broadcast, social media and digital platforms to promote priority programming. Liaise with the media regarding. Work closely with senior stakeholders, programme makers, commissioners as well as presenters and their representatives to advise on publicity, plan events and announcements, and maximise positive coverage. Collaborate effectively with other BBC teams and work with external partners to deliver campaigns in non-traditional means. The publicist will be part of a weekend on-call rota with colleagues.
