About the Role

Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance, fabrication support, and prototyping expertise to help students design, build, test, and iterate functional prototypes
- Support students in translating venture requirements into prototype development plans
- Manage the development and implementation of concepts to keep lab facilities state of the art
- Source materials and components; oversee purchasing of lab equipment and maintain inventory
- Contribute to design, development, and continuous improvement of TIE's instructional and prototyping lab capabilities
- Provide hands on guidance and mentorship to graduate students throughout the prototyping cycle
- Collaborate with students to troubleshoot technical challenges
- Manage the upkeep and maintenance of laboratory facilities, ensuring safety
- Conduct workshops or training sessions for students and staff
- Serve as liaison between university functions to facilitate project progress
- Maintain prototyping dashboard across TIE ventures
- Deliver progress statements to TIE Program Leadership
Requirements
- Master's in engineering or a related field (Bachelor's with extensive prototyping experience considered; PhD also considered)
- 8+ years relevant experience
- Extensive hands on experience in prototyping, project management, and laboratory operations
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electronic systems, including actuators, sensors, and microcontrollers
- Knowledge of control systems and automation, including PLC
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and MATLAB
- Professional in CAD and CAM software, and 3D printing
- Ability to travel 4 6 weeks / year

Position Summary
- We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Prototyping and Lab Specialist to join a senior role in our academic support team within the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (TIE) program.
- This role oversees the laboratory component of the graduate students through hands on projects and contributing to the development of instructional laboratories.
Major Responsibilities
