Responsibilities
- Provide expert support in compiling, running, debugging, and optimizing internally developed codes on HPC systems
- Install, port, and tune high performance applications and data analysis software stack
- Develop, deliver, and update training and user documentation
- Work closely with end users to meet research objectives in collaborative projects
- Develop software tools and parallel application libraries to support research projects
- Maintain broad knowledge of state of the art computer technology and support benchmarking activities
Requirements
- Ph.D. in computer science, computational science and engineering or closely related discipline
- Five years experience using and supporting large scale computing platforms
- Experience in parallel computing and with storage systems
- Proficiency in programming HPC applications and tools (Fortran, C/C++, Python, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, OpenACC)
- Previous research experience in performance modeling, I/O, data management, or emerging architectures
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

Position Summary
- Seeking a highly motivated and skilled HPC Computational Scientist to join the team.
- Responsible for providing expert support in compiling, running, debugging, and optimizing internally developed codes on HPC systems like Shaheen III CPUs and GPUs partitions.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide timely and useful user support via telephone, walk in, email, and ticketing system.
- Installation, porting and tuning of high performance applications, tools and data analysis software stack.
- Maintain scientific, technical and professional currency through collaboration, practice, training, conferences.
- Review and prepare documentation for systems, tests and installation of software.
- Provide individual and/or group instruction and training on topics of interest to the user community.
- Develop software tools and parallel application libraries as necessary to support research projects.
- Develop software application benchmarks for periodic upgrades of laboratory systems.
- Articulate and pursue research activities aligned with the laboratory and personal strengths.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in computer science, computational science and engineering or any closely related discipline.
- Five years experience using and supporting large scale computing platforms and related subsystems.
- Some relevant experience in computational science and engineering or any closely related discipline.
- Experience in parallel computing and with storage systems.
- Previous research experience in performance modeling, I/O, data management, data compression, emerging architectures, or node level programming environments.
Competencies
- Expertise in using or supporting computational science and engineering, data analysis, and AI applications in HPC environments.
- Proficiency in programming HPC applications and tools (Fortran, C/C++, Python, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, OpenACC).
- Track record of publications in computational science and engineering and data analysis journals and conferences.
- Strong team player with initiative and responsiveness.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
