About the role
Maincode is scaling Matilda, a large language model built and trained from scratch in Australia, into a live production system.
The role focuses on building the user-facing experience of Matilda and shaping how it feels, behaves, and communicates with users.
The position combines UX and implementation work rather than operating as a pure design or engineering handoff.
What you would do
- Build the web interface for chat, sessions, history, and settings.
- Implement streaming model-output experiences with partial responses, cancellation, and retries.
- Design interactions for latency, uncertainty, refusals, errors, reporting, feedback, and content handling.
- Iterate on layout, typography, spacing, and interaction details directly in code.
- Build internal tools and dashboards focused on clarity and usability.
- Integrate APIs, authentication, and system constraints with backend and infrastructure teams.
Candidate profile
- The employer is looking for engineers early in their careers, potentially with one or two years of production software experience.
- Candidates should have strong visual taste, attention to detail, and care for interaction quality.
