Principal Engineer - Retail Systems

Core Responsibilities

• Define technical vision, system design, and implementation approaches for global store, guest, educator, and omnichannel experiences.
• Provide technical authority across POS, mobile commerce, endless aisle, enterprise payments, RFID, inventory, retail data, and AI-enabled retail capabilities.
• Write production code for complex challenges and apply AI-enabled tooling, automation, and agentic development patterns where useful.
• Translate strategy into scalable architecture, executable roadmaps, AI-informed transformation plans, and operationally sound delivery.
• Lead complex cross-team integrations across retail, enterprise, market-specific, and AI-powered systems.
• Raise standards for code quality, reliability, observability, deployment readiness, technical debt, operational excellence, and responsible AI adoption.
• Identify and mitigate systemic technical risks, reliability gaps, integration complexity, platform constraints, AI governance needs, and technical debt.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 11 years of progressive software engineering experience with large-scale system design, technical architecture, and cross-functional leadership.
• Expert-level coding ability across multiple languages, frameworks, or platforms.
• Experience making durable technical trade-offs across scalability, reliability, maintainability, cost, delivery, and organizational impact.
• Experience with AI-assisted development, agentic software engineering, automation, or developer productivity tools.
• Technical depth in at least one engineering domain with strategic breadth across adjacent platforms and business domains.
• Ability to influence product strategy, investment decisions, technical direction, AI adoption, and business outcomes.
• Strong communication skills for technical, business, leadership, and executive audiences.
• Experience improving platform health, observability, resiliency, deployment automation, incident reduction, and operational excellence.
• Retail systems and commerce platform experience is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

• The typical annual hiring range is CAD 196,00 to CAD 258,00 as stated in the source description.
• Permanent employees may be eligible for an annual bonus program subject to eligibility requirements.

Workplace Arrangement
