Role overview
Kabam is seeking a Principal Backend Programmer to build and maintain advanced gaming systems and tools.
The role has significant influence on game direction and involves solving complex backend and infrastructure problems with engineers and designers.
This is a full-time, on-site position based five days per week at the Montreal studio.
In this role
- Design robust, flexible, and high-performing modular gameplay systems and translate requirements into technical designs.
- Select technologies, frameworks, libraries, tools, and cloud infrastructure strategies for project goals.
- Ensure software and server infrastructure are scalable, secure, performant, and maintainable.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and other teams to define requirements and deliver large-scale solutions.
- Architect and manage AWS or GCP infrastructure with Infrastructure as Code and build CI/CD pipelines for game servers and APIs.
- Debug complex software and infrastructure issues, investigate bottlenecks, and implement monitoring and alerting.
- Implement APIs, databases, authentication systems, and data processing pipelines and document designs and processes.
- Participate in code reviews, advise on coding standards, and improve codebase quality.
