The postdoctoral research associate will contribute to an ONR sponsored research project that examines air-sea-wave processes that relate to momentum flux variability in the tropical cyclone environment. The successful candidate will conduct and analyze numerical sensitivity experiments utilizing the coupled air-ocean-wave modeling systems to verify against field observations to identify momentum exchange processes that influence tropical cyclone intensity change. The postdoc will be based at the Northern Gulf Institute at Mississippi State’s campus and have access to MSU High Performance Computing Collaboratory supercomputing servers to conduct experiments. Funding is available for 12 months with opportunity for extension. Funds for conference travel are included. Anticipated start date of June 2025 with some flexibility.

The Northern Gulf Institute (NGI) is a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Cooperative Institute comprised of six academic institutions that are geographically distributed across the U.S. Gulf Coast states. The six NGI member institutions are Mississippi State University (lead), the University of Southern Mississippi, Florida State University, Louisiana State University, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the Dauphin Island Sea Laboratory. Together with NOAA and in support of their strategic plan, NGI conducts research on interconnections among Gulf of Mexico environments, habitats, resources, and people and engages in outreach to help others learn about and make decisions based on these interconnections.
