Overview
The Port Engineer is responsible for the technical management, maintenance planning, and operational readiness of a fleet of crew boats.
The role ensures vessels remain seaworthy, compliant, and available for charterers with minimal downtime.
� Technical & Maintenance Management
- Oversee day‑to‑day technical operations of the crew boat fleet.
- Plan, schedule, and supervise routine maintenance, dry‑dockings, and major overhauls.
- Conduct regular vessel inspections to ensure machinery, hull, and equipment are in optimal condition.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and coordinate repairs with workshops or OEMs.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure PMS (Planned Maintenance System) compliance.
� Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure all vessels comply with class, flag state, port state, and client requirements.
- Monitor the validity of statutory certificates and arrange timely renewals.
- Coordinate with surveyors, auditors, and authorities during inspections.
� Spare Parts & Inventory Control
- Manage procurement of spare parts, consumables, and technical supplies.
- Monitor onboard inventory levels and ensure critical spares are always available.
- Evaluate suppliers and negotiate pricing to optimize cost efficiency.
� Crew Support (Technical)
- Provide technical guidance to onboard engineers and crew.
- Support the crew in troubleshooting and ensure proper maintenance practices are followed.
- Participate in crew technical training and safety awareness programs.
� Budgeting & Cost Control
- Prepare and manage technical budgets for each vessel.
- Monitor repair costs, fuel consumption, and maintenance expenses.
- Review and approve technical invoices and job completion reports.
- ⚓ Operational Readiness
- Ensure vessels are always ready for deployment with minimal downtime.
- Coordinate with the operations team for planned maintenance windows.
- Respond to technical emergencies and arrange rapid support when required.
- � Reporting
- Prepare technical reports, breakdown analyses, and maintenance summaries.
- Update management on vessel condition, upcoming repairs, and cost forecasts.
Qualifications & Skills
- Marine engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification.
- Experience with crew boats, fast support vessels, or small craft engines (e.g., Caterpillar, Cummins, MTU).
- Strong knowledge of marine regulations, class rules, and PMS systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting, planning, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to operational demands.
