Overview

of the role :

Planning Manager is responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project programmes, including baseline schedules, weekly and monthly progress reports, and project control activities covering quantities, cost tracking, and Earned Value Management (EVM).

The role involves preparing Extension of Time (EOT) claims supported by comprehensive records, documentation, and contractual substantiation, while ensuring alignment with contract requirements and the main contract programme to achieve timely and cost-effective project completion.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and obtain approval for the MEP contract baseline programme.
  • Prepare engineering registers in line with the approved baseline programme.
  • Monitor engineering submission progress and highlight schedule variances.
  • Provide short-term look-ahead plans to the engineering and project teams.
  • Prepare and maintain procurement registers aligned with project schedules.
  • Track procurement activities and identify potential delays or risks.
  • Coordinate with vendors and specialist subcontractors to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Monitor overall project progress against the baseline programme.
  • Update project schedules and prepare periodic progress reports.
  • Conduct look-ahead planning and coordinate weekly progress meetings.
  • Attend client and main contractor progress review meetings.
  • Forecast manpower requirements based on project progress.
  • Monitor labour productivity and highlight resource constraints.
  • Develop detailed testing and commissioning (T&C) schedules.
  • Plan commissioning logic and sequence to support successful project delivery.
  • Identify variations and delay events impacting the project programme.
  • Prepare delay analyses, issue contractual delay notifications, and support Extension of Time (EOT) submissions.
  • Ensure project planning activities comply with contractual obligations and project milestones.

Skills

Required skills to be successful :

  • Strong proficiency in project management software, particularly Primavera P6.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of construction contracts, including FIDIC conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong technical report writing and correspondence abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, high ethical standards, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

What equips you for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6.
  • 12–15 years of experience in planning and project controls for MEP projects.
