About the Role
King Abdullah bin Abdelaziz University Hospital is seeking a PICU Assistant Consultant to provide patient care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Requires medical degree, SCHS registration, 2+ years specialty training, and 3 years post-certification experience.

Responsibilities
- Assist Consultants in clinical work by providing patient care at their level in accordance with granted privileges
- Provide consultation services, follow up care, perform procedures, share in on call duties, and other clinical duties as assigned
- Deliver patient care in outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, emergency room, operation room, day unit, intensive care units, etc.
- Practice patient care in accordance with up to date best practices and scientific evidence under consultant supervision
- Abide by KAAUH quality improvement initiatives and ensure a safe healing environment
- Empower patients and families to become active partners in their health and contribute to excellent patient experience
- Supervise residents, contribute to their professional development, and provide feedback on performance evaluations
- Provide clear understandable information to patients related to health and case
- Undertake administrative duties such as developing clinical guidelines, quality assurance, audits, peer reviews, and morbidity & mortality rounds
- Participate in general undergraduate and post graduate teaching activities and planning
- Provide regular teaching to all team members appropriate to their level
- Participate in research activities and work towards scientific publications
Requirements
- Graduation from a medical school recognized by SCHS and acceptable to KAAUH
- Certification by the appropriate specialty recognized by the SCHS
- Current SCHS registration/license OR candidate must meet SCHS criteria for registrar classification within one year
- Successful completion of 2 or more years of training in the specialty recognized by SCHS
- 3 years relevant experience as registrar post certification

Education and Professional Certifications/Licenses

Experience
- Successful completion of (2) or more years of training in the specialty recognized by SCHS
- (3) years relevant experience as registrar post certification
Job Purpose
- To exercise the highest possible standard of patient care according to his/her clinical privileges and available resources.
- Contributes to the teaching and training activities of the Children's Health Department.
- Works towards completing professional training in Children's Health including diagnostics and therapeutic intervention.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assisting Consultants in their clinical work by providing patient care at their level in accordance with the delineated scope of services and granted privileges.
- Patient care includes consultation services, follow up care, performing procedures, sharing in on call duties and other clinical duties as assigned.
- All clinical duties (including on call duties) will be assigned equally and fairly to the pool of available associate and assistant consultants.
- Patient care is delivered in outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, emergency room, operation room, day unit, intensive care units, etc.
- Practicing patient care in accordance with up to date best practices and based on scientific evidence under the supervision of the consultant.
- Abiding by KAAUH quality improvement initiatives and practices and ensuring a safe healing environment for the patients.
- Empowering patients and their families to become active partners in their health and wellness, and contributing to an excellent patient experience.
- Expressing stewardship through having a high sense of accountability, appropriate utilization of resources, and focusing on efficient patient care processes.
- Supervising the work of residents under their responsibility, in addition to contributing to their professional development and providing feedback on their performance evaluations.
- Provide clear understandable information to patients that related to health and case.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Undertaking administrative duties whenever required particularly in association with patient care, quality assurance, and improvement.
- Developing Clinical Management Guidelines, Clinical Pathways, and Evidence Based Best Practices.
- Quality Assurance and Improvement, such as Audits, Peer Reviews and Morbidity & Mortality rounds, etc.
- Any administrative requirements, task or duties needed for the development of their division, department, executive department or hospital.
Education & Research Responsibilities
- Participating in general undergraduate and post graduate teaching activities and planning.
- Providing regular teaching to all team members (senior and junior) appropriate to their level.
- Participating in the educational activities in the service, section and department, e.g. Grand Rounds, Journal Club, Daily morning meetings, etc.
- Taking advantage of continuing professional development events at KAAUH, and ensuring CME recertification requirements are maintained.
- Ensuring having the minimal requirements and knowledge to conduct scientific research.
- Participating in research activities within the department / hospital and working towards having scientific publications.
