ATCO Pipelines is seeking Engineers and Engineers-in-Training (EITs) to join our Natural Gas Planning team.

These positions support the planning, operation, and optimization of ATCO’s natural gas systems, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of natural gas to communities, industrial customers, and interconnected pipeline systems across the province.

As part of Alberta's largest integrated natural gas utility, you will contribute to the planning and development of infrastructure that serves over 1.3 million customers and supports many of the province's largest urban and industrial centers.

Working closely with engineering, operations, project delivery, commercial, regulatory, and system control teams, you will help evaluate system performance, support capital investment decisions, and develop practical solutions to address evolving customer and system requirements.

These roles offer exposure to a broad range of technical and operational challenges, including hydraulic modelling, facility planning, outage coordination, emergency response, system optimization, and integrity-driven projects.

• Perform hydraulic analyses and engineering assessments to evaluate system performance, support operational decision-making, and facilitate capital project execution.
• Support the development, maintenance, validation, and continuous improvement of gas system hydraulic models.
• Develop recommendations related to system operations, capacity management, and facility utilization.
• Support the planning and coordination of capital projects evaluating system needs, operating impacts, project alternatives, outage requirements, mitigation strategies, and execution considerations.
• Monitor system conditions and evaluate opportunities to optimize safety, reliability, operational flexibility, and customer service.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Operations, Gas Control, Project Engineering, Commercial Services, Asset Management, Construction, System Coordination, and Regulatory teams.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with external pipeline operators, customers, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
• Support customer growth requests, system interconnections, facility expansions, and other business development initiatives through technical evaluations and planning studies.
• Develop operational plans and contingency strategies to address short-term system constraints and emerging operational challenges.
• Provide engineering support during planned outages, emergency events, and abnormal operating conditions. These activities may require after-hours support.
• Prepare and authenticate professional work products upon achieving professional designation and demonstrated competence.

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGA or another Canadian regulatory body.
• Minimum three (3) years of engineering experience in the natural gas, pipeline, utility, energy, or related industry.
• Knowledge of pipeline systems, gas fluid flow principles, hydraulic modelling, system operations, facilities engineering, or infrastructure planning is considered an asset.
• Experience using Synergi Gas or other hydraulic modelling software is considered an asset.
• Working knowledge of GIS and SCADA systems and their application in pipeline and utility operations is considered an asset.
• Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities with the capability to evaluate complex system interactions and develop practical solutions.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical information to a variety of audiences.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

• Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills.
• Curiosity and desire to develop a deep understanding of the Alberta natural gas system and the factors that influence system growth and performance.
