We're looking for an Environmental Planning & Project Execution Advisor to help deliver critical utility infrastructure projects while supporting regulatory compliance, environmental performance, and operational excellence.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Planning & Governance, you will work alongside engineering, construction, land, operations, and external consultants to support environmental planning, permitting, and project delivery activities across a diverse portfolio of utility projects.

We're looking for an Environmental Planning & Project Execution Advisor to help deliver critical utility infrastructure projects while supporting regulatory compliance, environmental performance, and operational excellence.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Planning & Governance, you will work alongside engineering, construction, land, operations, and external consultants to support environmental planning, permitting, and project delivery activities across a diverse portfolio of utility projects.
As an advisor, you will support Engineering, Operations and Construction to mitigate environmental impacts while driving innovative solutions to emerging challenges.

Subject matter areas include wildlife, vegetation, soils, aquatics, wetlands, and spill and incident management.
This role requires a well-organized individual with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
Support environmental planning and execution activities for capital, maintenance, integrity, and growth projects.
Conduct environmental reviews and assessments to identify regulatory requirements, project constraints, and environmental risks.
Analyze environmental and spatial data to support project routing, siting, and execution decisions.
Develop permitting strategies and coordinate regulatory approvals required for project execution.
Partner with engineering, construction, land, and operations teams to identify practical solutions to environmental challenges.
Coordinate environmental consultants and contractors to ensure quality, schedule, and budget expectations are achieved.
Review technical reports, assessments, mitigation plans, and consultant deliverables.
Track permit commitments and environmental requirements throughout project execution.
Participate in field visits and provide environmental support during construction activities, as required.
Assist with regulatory reporting, compliance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Contribute to the development of environmental procedures, standards, and best practices that support consistent project delivery across the organization.
Participate in cross-functional training and awareness programs to promote best practices in environmental management and compliance across operational teams.
Oversee environmental audits and inspections, ensuring accurate documentation and proactive resolution of non-compliance issues.
Support contractor management activities to ensure vendors are providing accurate and reasonable deliverables to align with ATCO’s risk tolerance.
Provide oversight and support for Release Reporting, sustainability reporting, and incident management (and associated communications with regulatory bodies), as required.
Participate, as required, in activities such as contractor orientation, training, audits, and liaison with regulatory agencies.
Complete regulatory, submission, reporting, and summarization, as necessary.
Project planning experience in Saskatchewan considered an asset.
Degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology, Geography, Land Use Planning, Agriculture, Forestry, or related discipline.
Professional designation, or eligibility to obtain one, such as P.Biol., P.Ag., P.Geo., RPP, or equivalent.
Approximately 4 to 8 years of experience in environmental planning, permitting, regulatory compliance, project execution support, or infrastructure development.
Proven knowledge of planning, land-use and environmental principles, normally acquired through a degree in planning or in an environmental field.
Knowledge of Alberta environmental legislation, regulatory approval processes, and land-use planning principles.

Strong understanding of environmental permitting, risk assessment, and mitigation planning.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with GIS and spatial analysis tools.

Excellent decision-making, time management, organizational and planning skills
Must be able to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and independent work ethics are essential.
Ability to organize time well and set proper priorities.
A valid Class 5 Driver's License and willingness to conduct occasional field visits.
