Network Performance Monitoring (NPM) Engineer

Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and operate **network performance monitoring platforms** such as **SolarWinds**
• and **Riverbed NetIM**
• Configure and manage **SNMP polling**, device onboarding, health checks, thresholds, and alerts
• Monitor network availability, latency, utilization, and performance trends to proactively detect
• issues
• Analyze network and application performance using protocol-level understanding (TCP, UDP,

HTTP, DNS, SSL And TLS)

• **Work on incidents using BMC ITSM**, including investigation, troubleshooting, and
• resolution coordination
• **Raise and manage change requests in BMC ITSM**, ensuring proper documentation,
• approvals, and implementation support
• Perform **root cause analysis (RCA)** using monitoring data and historical trends
• Develop and maintain **Linux shell and Python scripts** to automate monitoring tasks and
• operational activities
• Collaborate with Network, Security, Server, and Application teams to improve observability
• and reduce MTTR
• Maintain monitoring documentation, standards, dashboards, and operational procedures

Required Experience & Technical Skills

• **Minimum 3 years of experience** in **Network Performance Monitoring** or monitoring-
• focused roles
• **Strong hands-on experience with SNMP-based monitoring tools**, such as:
• ◦ SolarWinds
• ◦ Riverbed NetIM (or equivalent NMS tools)
• **Background in Linux and Windows server administration** (to support monitoring
• platforms; not a primary admin role)
• **Minimum 3 years of experience** in **Linux shell scripting and Python scripting**
• Hands-on experience with **BMC ITSM**, including:
• ◦ Incident management
• ◦ Change request creation and coordination
• Strong understanding of **networking and application protocols**, including:

◦ HTTP And HTTPS

Preferred And Nice-To-Have Skills

• Experience monitoring large-scale enterprise networks (Data Center, WAN, Branch, ISP links)
• Exposure to alert tuning, noise reduction, and threshold optimization
• Experience creating dashboards, reports, and performance baselines
• Understanding of ITIL processes and operational best practices
