About the Role

- Own the motion and interaction layer of the Kraken app, including easing, springs, gestures, transitions, haptics, and sound
- Evolve the mobile design system by owning components like gesture handlers, transition primitives, animated containers, and motion tokens
- Partner closely with product designers to elevate motion and interaction design from concept through implementation
- Profile and optimize rendering performance, especially on lower end Android devices
- Contribute to architectural decisions affecting UI responsiveness, including state management, render cycles, and data flow
- Raise the bar for quality across the mobile org through review, example, and writing patterns
Requirements
- Deep React Native fluency, including Reanimated and gesture handlers
- Portfolio demonstrating motion and interaction design craft
- Taste in motion and ability to articulate interaction feel
- Product judgment to shape specifications
- Proficiency with AI tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude)
- Written and verbal English proficiency

About the Role
- Building the Future of Open Finance at Payward, parent company of Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks.
- The Consumer Mobile team builds the Kraken app using React Native, focusing on feel and trust.
- This role owns the feel of the Kraken app: the half second a trade confirms, how a chart loads, how a sheet rises from the bottom.
What You'll Do
- Own the motion and interaction layer of the Kraken app: easing, springs, gestures, transitions, haptics, sound.
- Evolve the mobile design system, owning components like gesture handlers, transition primitives, animated containers, motion tokens.
- Partner closely with product designers to elevate motion and interaction design from concept through implementation.
- Profile and optimize rendering performance, especially on lower end Android devices.
- Contribute to architectural decisions affecting UI responsiveness: state management, render cycles, data flow.
- Raise the bar for quality across the mobile org by review, example, and writing patterns.
What You Bring
- A portfolio demonstrating craft (demo reel, personal site, GitHub of interaction sketches, screen captures).
- Deep React Native fluency: Reanimated, gesture handlers, profiling JS thread vs UI thread.
- Taste in motion: opinions about easing curves, noticing over damped springs, articulating why a transition feels wrong.
- Product judgment: taking a half formed brief, finding the actual problem, shipping something better.
- AI tools as part of how you work: Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.
- Written and verbal English proficiency.
Nice to Have
- React Native Skia, shader work, or custom canvas based rendering.
- Real native experience: Swift or Kotlin to write a bridge module.
- A motion library, design system contribution, or interaction primitive set used by other engineers.
- Visual or motion design background: prototyping in Figma, After Effects, or on paper.
- High stakes product experience in fintech, trading, health, or anywhere UI precision is load bearing.
