About the Role

The Mill Forklift Operator plays a critical role in the efficient operation of the mill by safely and effectively handling materials using forklifts. This position is responsible for transporting raw materials, finished products, and supplies within the mill facility, ensuring timely delivery to various production and storage areas. The operator must maintain a high level of safety awareness to prevent accidents and damage to materials or equipment. Additionally, the role involves performing routine inspections and maintenance on forklifts to ensure operational reliability. Ultimately, the Mill Forklift Operator contributes to the smooth workflow and productivity of the mill by supporting material movement and inventory management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid forklift operator certification or license as required by OSHA or relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Proven experience operating forklifts in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety guidelines and operational procedures.
  • Physical capability to perform manual tasks including lifting, standing, and maneuvering equipment for extended periods.
  • Basic communication skills to coordinate with team members and supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a mill or heavy manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems and material handling software.
  • Additional certifications related to industrial equipment operation or safety training.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform minor forklift maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts to move raw materials, components, and finished goods within the mill facility safely and efficiently.
  • Load and unload materials from trucks, storage areas, and production lines according to established procedures.
  • Conduct daily inspections of forklifts to identify and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials moved and assist with inventory control as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
