Role overview
HSBC is seeking an experienced professional for the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering.
The role builds and operates core services for rates trade booking and trade storage, with potential extension across broader FICC products.
The position owns technical design, hands-on development, CI/CD, production readiness, and operational support.
Key responsibilities
- Engineer highly available, consistent, and high-throughput distributed services.
- Design gRPC and Protocol Buffers interfaces and streaming integrations.
- Implement trade versioning, traceability, access controls, retention, and secure-by-design controls.
- Raise engineering standards through reviews, automation, observability, and incident learning.
- Mentor engineers and influence engineering culture without formal line management.
- Shape requirements with Product Owners, business analysts, and stakeholders.
- Build lightweight UIs for trade enquiry and operational workflows.
Required experience
- 7+ years of IT experience in Java development as an individual contributor and mentor.
- Strong senior-level Java backend and microservices experience with production ownership.
