Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our Fixed Plant Maintenance team in Port Hedland. Reporting to the Shift Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of fixed plant assets through the execution of breakdown activities and scheduled work
Working as part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to preventative maintenance programs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to maximise equipment availability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with maintenance plans and systems, identifying and recommending corrective actions where required.
Perform all breakdown maintenance and repair work this will include using hydraulic schematics, technical drawings, plans, and equipment manuals.
Execute all aspects of maintenance activities, including pre-work planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Detailed Work Packs (DWPs), material coordination, testing, and task completion.
Work autonomously to achieve maintenance and operational performance targets.
Identify, report, and assist in rectifying equipment defects, non-conformances, and workplace hazards.
Maintain compliance with 1SAP Work Management processes for the assigned work centre.
Build strong working relationships across operational and maintenance teams to support safe and efficient task execution.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and ensure lessons learned are incorporated into future work practices.
Demonstrate strong commitment to field leadership activities and provide coaching and support to team members.
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with BHP's Code of Conduct, company standards, and relevant legislative requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter or Boilermaker.
Current C Class Manual Driver's Licence.
Demonstrated breakdown and fault-finding experience within an industrial maintenance environment.
Experience maintaining heavy fixed plant equipment.
Current High-Risk Work Licence (HRWL), including Basic Rigging (desirable).
Valid training and certifications for:
Elevated Work Platform (EWP)
Working at Heights
Confined Space Entry
Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
