  • The Materials & Process Engineering (M&PE) Department within the Hardware Engineering Center is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for performing mechanical testing and designing fixtures to support development, design, and failure analysis activities for a different range of product applications. This position requires critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail in executing procedures, testing, analysis, and documentation.
  • You will collaborate closely with design engineers, material engineers, and subject matter experts across various disciplines, managing and coordinating multiple tasks to meet schedule requirements. As part of a multi-disciplined team, you will contribute to solving complex technical challenges. What You Will Do

  • Perform hands-on mechanical testing using various laboratory techniques to evaluate material properties and design limitations
  • Develop test plans and set up test configurations for unique hardware applications
  • Assess materials for compliance with specifications and standards
  • Evaluate parts and hardware to ensure alignment with structural analyses and conformance to design requirements
  • Collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and subject matter experts
  • Execute tasks with a high degree of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in testing, analysis, and documentation
  • Handle the physical demands of the role, which include the ability to lift up to 28 lbs
  • Manage and coordinate multiple analysis tasks simultaneously while adhering to schedule requirements

  • Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in Instron or MTS load frames
  • Qualifications We Prefer
  • Proficiency with instrumentation and data acquisition equipment to support mechanical testing and analysis.
  • Experience using software tools such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, and PTC Creo for data collection, analysis, and design.
  • Familiarity with ASTM test methods for conducting mechanical testing.
  • Hands-on experience with general material testing and analysis using laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical reports to effectively summarize analyses and test results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, planning, and time management abilities.
  • ABET accreditation is preferred but not required; a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher is desired.
