Role Overview

The Mechanical Engineer designs and develops mechanical systems, tooling, layouts, schematics, and specifications for semiconductor equipment.

The role covers mechanical architecture, robotics, wafer handling, analysis, design release, manufacturing, assembly, qualification, and deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the mechanical package, including mobile platform integration, robot mounting structures, FOUP load ports, and enclosures.
  • Select robots and end-effectors and perform kinematics, reach, payload, and hand-off studies.
  • Develop docking and auto-levelling mechanisms with vibration control.
  • Engineer FFU/ETU airflow enclosures and cleanliness-compliant wafer-transfer structures.
  • Run structural, modal, vibration, and thermal FEA across chassis, mounts, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Deliver large-assembly 3D models, GD&T-controlled drawings, tolerance stack-ups, and procurement documentation.
  • Drive DFM/DFA and design reviews, own the BOM, and support suppliers, quotations, and long-lead procurement.
  • Lead prototype build, assembly, debug, qualification, and deployment, including docking, levelling, battery, charging, and throughput validation.

Required Skills

  • Hands-on industrial robot integration, including kinematics, reach and payload studies, end-effector design, and automation cell build-up.
  • AGV chassis integration covering drive, navigation, battery, and charging.
  • Strong working proficiency in wafer-handling environments and cleanliness requirements.
  • Structural, modal, vibration, and thermal simulation with design decisions closed from results.
  • ASME Y14.5 dimensioning and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Ownership of large assemblies in NX, Inventor, or SolidWorks, including drawing release and procurement documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead design reviews across global teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • B.E. or B.Tech, or M.E. or M.Tech, in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • 8–12 years of experience across semiconductor capital equipment, robotics, or factory automation.
  • Proven ownership of at least one system from concept through prototype build to deployment.
  • Experience working with electrical, controls/software, safety, and tool-integration teams.

Preferred Skills

  • SPM domain expertise.
  • Exposure to SEMI S2/S8 safety standards and interlock-aware mechanical design.
  • AGV or AMR deployment experience in a fab or other high-cleanliness environment.
  • DFMEA, supplier development, and cross-site program execution experience.
