Role Overview
The Flex-Tek Innovation Team is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support automation, manufacturing technology, and innovation efforts.
The role develops practical mechanical solutions that improve safety, quality, throughput, reliability, cost, and innovation speed across Flex-Tek sites.
Design and Development
- Design tooling, fixtures, guards, robot stands, material handling devices, and custom machine components.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, drawings, assemblies, layouts, configurable files, and CAM-ready details.
- Perform basic checks for loads, force, torque, motion, clearances, tolerances, materials, ergonomics, and structural integrity.
- Select bearings, linear slides, pneumatic cylinders, motors, sensors, fasteners, framing, guarding, and other purchased components.
- Design around automation and controls integration, including sensors, cable routing, pneumatics, robot tooling, guarding, operator stations, and service access.
Project Execution and Support
- Support prototypes, 3D-printed concepts, test rigs, fixture trials, equipment mockups, fabrication reviews, installation, troubleshooting, startup, validation, and production handoff.
- Lead prototype, fixture, equipment-change, and process-improvement testing and document findings and recommendations.
