Role Overview
The Master has overall authority for the health and safety of personnel onboard, vessel safety, and environmental protection.
The Master is responsible for safety and pollution-prevention decisions and may request company assistance.
Vessel Management Responsibilities
- Implement company policies and the Safety Management System and verify compliance.
- Ensure compliance with Flag State, Classification Society, and local rules and regulations.
- Manage, plan, organize, and control all vessel activities.
- Ensure planned maintenance and routines cover onboard equipment, safety equipment, machinery, cranes, and dynamic positioning systems.
- Ensure marine personnel have appropriate qualifications, certification, familiarization, and guidance.
- Ensure personnel performance appraisals are conducted.
- Ensure safety committees, inspections, and permit-to-work systems are followed.
Navigation and Security
- Navigate the vessel safely in transit, on location, and during berthing and unberthing.
- Ensure company requirements and IMCA guidance are followed during dynamic positioning operations.
- Ensure official logbooks are completed correctly.
- Maintain the Ship Security Plan and ensure compliance with the ISPS Code.
