The Role

Jobber is seeking a Manager of Software Engineering to lead and support engineering team members.

The role shapes technical direction and helps maintain a reliable, high-performing platform as Jobber scales.

The manager reports to a Senior Manager of Software Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop team members through goals, one-on-ones, feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Participate in recruiting, hiring, and processes that build a high-performing engineering department.
  • Set expectations for daily use of AI agents and coach engineers across the AI adoption curve.
  • Remove delivery roadblocks and build guardrails for high-quality software development.
  • Collaborate with Product and Business Technology stakeholders to find effective solutions.

To Be Successful

  • Established software engineering experience and leadership experience guiding teams in delivering quality software.
  • Strong full-stack background with design and architecture experience.
  • Deep experience in either Ruby on Rails environments or ReactJS.
  • Ability to deliver impactful projects on time and help teams adapt in an agile environment.
  • Daily hands-on experience with agentic AI tools beyond autocomplete or chat.
  • Experience leading engineering AI adoption with evidence of changed outcomes.
  • Effective written and oral communication and a commitment to leadership and mentorship.

Highly Desired

  • Experience with ReactJS, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and GraphQL.
  • Familiarity with reliability in systems outside the candidate's own team.
  • Experience balancing rapid delivery with reliability for high-risk data or critical features.

Location

  • The role is open to fully remote candidates based anywhere in Canada.
  • Jobber's hub cities include Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, and Kitchener-Waterloo.

Compensation

  • The Canadian annual salary range is CAD 169,200 to CAD 228,900, with a midpoint of CAD 199,100.
  • Total compensation includes equity, health and wellness stipends, retirement savings matching, and extended health benefits.
