Position Summary

The Manager, Risk will be responsible for day-to-day oversight of the risk management processes across the organization. Reporting to the Risk Director, the Manager works collaboratively with the enterprise to identify, assess, mitigate, monitor, and report on organizational risks.

Enterprise Risk Management

Support inputs and analysis of risks/incidents to inform the broader risk registry through identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of enterprise-level risks.

Monitor risk mitigation plans and track progress.

Responsible for oversight of the Emergency Response and Preparedness Plan (ERPP) including coordination of organizational activities and continuity plans.

Risk Management

Responsible for operationalizing and maintaining the organization’s risk management program.

Develop and maintain risk program tools and resources.

Responsible for the administration of risk utilizing the risk system to ensure processes and procedures are followed.

Responsible for reviewing, prioritizing, assigning and escalating incidents and risks in the risk system.

Conduct and/or lead investigations of high-risk incidents and complaints, as appropriate.

Conduct root cause analyses and identify system-level contributing factors and mitigation strategies, as appropriate.

Responsible for coordinating risk reviews.

Responsible for analyzing risk and incident data to identify trends related to complaints, critical incidents, and adverse events.

Monitor trends to identify and mitigate safety, and operational risks.

Identify opportunities to strengthen risk management processes, systems, and reporting mechanisms.

Education and Risk Culture

Promote risk awareness and risk-informed decision-making throughout the organization.

Develop and deliver education and training for staff related to risk and incident management principles, assessment, and reporting requirements.

Foster culture of transparency, accountability, continuous improvement with an emphasis on just culture and psychological safety .

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Quality and Patient Safety, Risk Management, or a related healthcare field required.
  • Regulated healthcare professional in good standing with the applicable regulatory college preferred.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of progressive experience in healthcare incident management, risk management, patient safety, quality, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting enterprise risk management programs, frameworks, and organizational risk initiatives within a healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments, investigations, incident reviews, and root cause analyses to identify contributing factors and recommend corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of healthcare risk management principles, patient safety practices, quality improvement methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and develop meaningful reports and recommendations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear reports, documentation, and presentations for a variety of audiences.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, respond effectively in a fast-paced environment, and adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Experience supporting incident investigations and facilitating follow-up actions to improve organizational learning and risk mitigation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, as well as risk management and reporting systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with clinical, operational, and corporate stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development within healthcare risk management and patient safety practices.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel is a requirement.
