Position Overview
The Engineering Manager leads the resident product engineering team supporting body structures, closures, and low-voltage harness systems across production vehicle programs.
The role focuses on production issue triage, containment, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and cross-functional escalation management.
Success includes clearer issue ownership, faster response to production concerns, fewer repeat issues, and stronger feedback between production and vehicle engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the resident product engineering organization, set priorities, balance workload, and develop engineers.
- Own engineering triage for production and field concerns through problem definition, containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
- Serve as the escalation point for build, assembly, quality, supplier, and manufacturing disruptions.
- Coordinate engineering, manufacturing, production, quality, service, supply chain, purchasing, and program teams.
- Support launch, ramp, and Safe Launch activities and improve resident engineering standard work and reporting.
Skills
- Use structured problem-solving methods for complex product issues and corrective action verification.
- Apply knowledge of vehicle structures, closures, and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.
- Use DFMEA, DVP&R, DFM, DFA, PFMEA, Control Plans, APQP, PPAP, Safe Launch, 8D, PPS, or similar methods.
- Use Jira, PLM, issue management systems, and production quality data.
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification and collegiate FSAE or BAJA experience are preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 10 years of automotive product engineering experience, including production, launch, sustaining, or resident engineering exposure.
- A bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline is listed in the source qualification text.
