About the Department
Part-time, year-round position responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons and supporting aquatics programming at the Monarch Recreation Center. This position monitors indoor and outdoor pools, slides, and water features during a variety of programs, including open swim, classes, fitness programs, and special events. The Lifeguard maintains safety standards while adapting to a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and school-year programming. Works collaboratively with aquatics staff and Recreation Center personnel to support overall facility operations.
Position Duties
- Monitor aquatic areas, including pools, slides, and recreational water features to ensure patron safety. Enforce facility rules and respond to unsafe conditions or behaviors. Perform rescues and administer first aid, CPR, and AED as required. Support aquatics programming, including swim lessons, water fitness classes, and special events. Maintain awareness across multiple aquatic zones and adjust coverage as needed. Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and safety of aquatic areas and surrounding facilities. Participate in required trainings, drills, and skill evaluations. Assist with setup and breakdown of aquatics programs and equipment. Provide customer service and interact with patrons regarding safety and facility use. Coordinate with aquatics staff to ensure smooth program operations. Adapt to varying schedules, attendance levels, and program demands. Perform opening and closing duties as assigned. Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Formal Education: Must be at least 15 years of age and currently enrolled in high school or have completed high school/GED. Relatable Work Experience: None required. On-the-job training will be provided. Training, Licenses, and Certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED certification required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in indoor and multi-use aquatic facilities. Experience supporting year-round aquatics programming. Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Ability to communicate clearly with patrons and staff. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Ability to maintain focus and situational awareness in dynamic environments. Environmental Factors and Other Physical Requirements (Work Environment): Work is performed in indoor and outdoor aquatic environments. Exposure to water, humidity, noise, and large groups.
