Role Overview

  • The Legal Knowledge & Development Counsel will be the engine behind the institution's knowledge function, building and curating the Centre's legal knowledge base, producing thought leadership and publications, supporting internal legal development, and helping to position arbitrateAD as an authorita
  • The role is well suited to a qualified lawyer with genuine intellectual curiosity and a passion for international arbitration, who is looking to step away from or complement front line practice with a role that has broader institutional, strategic, and publication dimensions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain arbitrateAD's internal knowledge base, including legal precedents, research notes, procedural guidance, and commentary on developments in international arbitration law and practice
  • Monitor and analyse significant arbitral awards, court decisions, legislative developments, and rule changes relevant to international arbitration, with particular focus on the MENA region and ADGM/UAE frameworks
  • Research, draft, and publish a regular arbitrateAD newsletter covering developments in international arbitration, institutional updates, and practitioner insights
  • Prepare legal articles, briefing notes, commentary, and blog posts for publication on the arbitrateAD website and in external legal publications and journals
  • Draft speeches, presentations, and written submissions for the Executive Director, Chairman at conferences and institutional events
  • Contribute to the development of arbitrateAD's rules, practice notes, and guidance documents as the institution evolves
  • Prepare board and committee meeting materials, including agendas, briefing papers, background notes, and minutes
  • Support the Executive Director in preparing for external engagements, including research packs, talking points, and presentation materials
  • Assist in drafting institutional policies, internal protocols, and governance documents
  • Design and deliver training sessions, seminars, and webinars on topics in international arbitration
  • Support arbitrateAD's outreach and engagement with the wider arbitration community
  • Assist in preparing pitches, capability statements, and promotional materials that showcase arbitrateAD's expertise and institutional offering

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified lawyer (barrister, solicitor, or equivalent) in any common law or civil law jurisdiction
  • Minimum 3 years of post qualification experience as a practising lawyer or in a professional support / knowledge management / PSL role, with meaningful exposure to international arbitration
  • Demonstrated passion for and substantive knowledge of international arbitration, including institutional arbitral procedure, and the legal framework governing arbitration in common law and civil law jurisdictions
  • Legal experience in or with the Middle East, whether through practice in the region, handling MENA related disputes, or working within a regional legal framework; familiarity with ADGM or UAE federal law is an advantage
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to produce clear and authoritative legal content for both specialist and non specialist audiences
  • Experience preparing publications, briefings, articles, or other externally facing legal content
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative without close supervision

Language Requirements

  • Full professional proficiency in English is essential — the role involves producing high quality written legal content in English
  • Proficiency in Arabic (written and/or spoken) is highly desirable and will be a significant advantage, particularly for regional outreach and Arabic language publications; however, it is not a bar to application for candidates with strong Middle East legal experience

  • Adaptable: arbitrateAD is an evolving institution and the role will develop alongside it
  • Culturally aware and experienced engaging with legal professionals from diverse backgrounds

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Prior experience at an international arbitration institution in a counsel, legal, or knowledge role
  • Familiarity with legal technology tools, knowledge management platforms, or legal research databases
