The role
The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (E&EE) at the University of Bristol has an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching. The Department currently has a vacancy for a Lecturer in Quantum Engineering Technologies to complement the skill set of the Photonics & Quantum research group and contribute to the Quantum Engineering Technology Laboratories research centre (QETLabs) and the Bristol Quantum Information Institute of the University. The post will support the teaching of our degree courses in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
What will you be doing?
Bristol is consistently ranked as one of the top places in the UK for Teaching and Research in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The Department is an active and successful centre of excellence in teaching and research, with in-depth specialisation in advanced communications technologies (power and spectrum efficient wireless access, image & video signal processing, photonics and quantum information) and electrical energy management. Much of the Department’s research is interdisciplinary, working with colleagues in the Engineering Faculty and in Applied Sciences. The Department runs undergraduate programmes in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Electronics and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering with a high-quality student intake (entry grades are AAA at UK A-level), as well as several advanced MSc programmes, including the MSc in Optoelectronic and Quantum Technologies. Our focus is on providing a high quality and innovative learning environment. The applicant should ideally have experience of delivering teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
You should apply if
You have an excellent research track record in an area related to quantum photonic technologies. More focused research areas could include quantum key distribution systems, systems exploiting photonic entanglement, chip scale devices, nanophotonics, photon counting devices and systems, single photon sources, and related research. QETLabs is a world leading research centre spanning E&EE (Photonics & Quantum Group) and Physics with several large grants delivering Quantum Technologies in Imaging, Communications and Computing, a Centre for Doctoral Training in Quantum Engineering, a fully refurbished cleanroom and electron-beam facility, and industry engagement through Quantum Technology Innovation Centre (QTIC)providing a vibrant and active research environment.
Please include with your CV and covering letter a 1 page statement on your research vision and a 1 page statement on the contributions that you can make to teaching in the Department. We would like to encourage applications from groups under-represented in electronic engineering.
