Assist in the provision of essential core facilities support: working to support and assist the day to day running of the research laboratories within the laboratories in Clinical Sciences. To provide essential technical support to ensure the smooth and effective running of the service.
Clinical Sciences has laboratories on Level 7 of the Bristol Royal Infirmary, The Dorothy Hodgkin Building and Learning and Research at Southmead Hospital. Research currently centres around Neuroscience, Renal themes, Cardiovascular research, Diabetes and Metabolism and Cancer research. The role holder will initially be based in the laboratories at our Dorothy Hodgkin Building and Bristol Royal Infirmary sites but may be required to work in other areas of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
Assist with maintaining laboratory equipment and Personal Protective Equipment, including appropriate testing and cleaning. Working in line with relevant Health & Safety guidelines. Removal and handling of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Assist in training others in basic processes. Maintaining stocks of materials and consumables, by using University purchasing system. Placing, checking, and appropriately dealing with received orders. Maintaining records, such as inventories and deliveries.
Use of equipment to support research and/or teaching activities, for example PCR machines and autoclaves
You have:
Some experience of working in a laboratory, or equivalent practical skills learned in an alternative environment.
Good IT skills, and an ability to learn to effectively use new software or IT systems when required.
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to deal with and prioritise a range of ongoing tasks at the same time, and to be able to cope under pressure.
