Role overview
Special Minds places Learning Support Assistants, also called one-to-one shadow teachers, with children who have special educational needs across the UAE.
The role supports one child in a mainstream classroom or at home during the current school year.
The placement requires fluent English and follows the child's school timetable or agreed home hours.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one support for a child in their classroom or at home.
- Work from the child's individual support plan and its behavior, communication, or learning goals.
- Submit a short session record within 24 hours of each session.
- Maintain regular contact with the school's SEN team or the family and the Special Minds coordinator.
Requirements
- Fluent spoken and written English is required.
- A relevant qualification or genuine progress toward one in psychology, education, special needs, early years, or teaching is required.
- Experience with children is required; SEN experience is a strong advantage, while classroom or childcare experience is a reasonable starting point.
- Patience for a role measured through small, repeated wins is required.
