The role is a Lead Software Engineer supporting modernization of infrastructure using Google Cloud.
The team builds secure, resilient and efficient platforms for customers and engineers.
The working pattern is hybrid, with at least two days per week or 40% of time at the Manchester location.
What you will do
- Design, develop and improve cloud infrastructure and platform services.
- Write, review and maintain Infrastructure as Code to meet security and quality standards.
- Support products and services, including incident response and customer requests.
- Develop, test and release platform features and enhancements.
- Track delivery work through agreed tools and processes such as Jira.
- Use automation and AI-enabled tooling to improve efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness.
- Improve products, services and operational processes and contribute to planning and roadmaps.
- Support learning, development, knowledge sharing and mentoring of junior engineers.
- Provide cover for the Lead Engineer when required.
Required experience and capabilities
- Experience designing, building or supporting cloud-based infrastructure solutions.
- Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or an equivalent.
- Experience with version control and collaboration tools such as GitHub or similar.
- Understanding of engineering practices and industry best standards.
- Experience in agile delivery environments such as Scrum or Kanban.
- Experience with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and continuous delivery.
- Clear communication, constructive collaboration and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Proactive identification and resolution of technical issues or bottlenecks.
Useful additional experience
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Terraform, GitHub, firewalls, VPC Service Controls, IAM, organisation policies and networking controls may be useful.
- Experience with automation, platform tooling or AI-enabled capabilities may be useful.
- Experience supporting, mentoring and developing other engineers may be useful.
Compensation
- The advertised salary is £69,624 to £87,030.
- The benefits package includes pension contributions of up to 15%, an annual performance-related bonus and share schemes.
