Job Description Summary
The Lead Major Component Upgrade Technician leads and assures assigned MCU operations are executed according to GE priorities for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
The role leads complete MCU operations and interfaces with all parties during execution across wind farms in Australia.
Location and Roster
- The role works across different wind farms on the East Coast of Australia.
- The position follows a three-weeks-on, one-week-off roster and requires flexibility across locations.
- The posting also includes a remote-position tag, although the duties require active work at wind-farm sites.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead assigned Major Component Exchange operations, including preparation, coordination, execution, and reporting.
- Guide all parties involved in MCU execution to achieve high EHS, quality, delivery, and cost standards.
- Serve as the technical advisor for MCU parties at site.
- Verify that workers and contractors have proper qualifications, documentation, and skills.
- Partner with the MCU Project Manager, GE Service Teams, contractors, and other functions.
- Identify and address potential unplanned situations proactively.
- Manage required documentation and provide internal reporting.
- Identify improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost and help develop new tools and methods.
- Review and provide feedback on MCU work instructions and support updates.
- Comply with statutory and GE internal EHS requirements.
- Operate the wind turbine generator when required for MCU purposes.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A qualified electrician with an appropriate Australian electrical license and strong mechanical aptitude, or a qualified mechanical tradesperson with electrical aptitude.
- Proficiency in fault finding electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment.
- Experience in wind-farm operations and maintenance, installation, and heavy-lift main-component exchange.
- At least three years of experience leading crane operations through end-to-end execution.
- At least three years of experience in wind maintenance or another energy or industrial segment.
- Demonstrated high safety and quality mindset.
- Ability to lead in a dynamic and complex matrix environment with quick learning capability and ownership.
- Ability to work at heights and maintain a high level of physical fitness.
- Familiarity with wind turbine generator mechanical and electrical areas.
- Familiarity with MS Office and GE software tools.
- Eligibility to work in Australia at the date of application.
- Ability and willingness to travel nationally or internationally for work and training.
Desired Characteristics
- Intermediate computer skills and strong organizational skills in an environment of changing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement innovative solutions.
- Wind-farm industry experience is highly desirable.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are desirable.
- GWO/GWO ART qualification is desirable.
- Dogging, rigging, or Franna tickets are desirable.
Working Conditions
- Work across different time zones may require monitoring, reading, and responding to contact outside normal working hours.
