Role overview

Manage Fault Control, live fault response, and Remote Condition Monitoring using MMS and ECC diagnostic systems.

Lead Fault Controllers and First Line Response Technicians assigned during the shift.

Ensure 24/7 operational continuity and real-time decision-making in a high-risk, time-critical environment.

Strategic and operational responsibilities

  • Support fault-management strategies, processes, standards, procedures, RCM, diagnostics, performance monitoring, and quality assurance.
  • Lead day-to-day fault management, shift coverage, rostering, duty allocation, incident response, and asset recovery.
  • Coordinate with the OCC Duty Manager and technical teams to minimize disruption and resolve operational issues.
  • Monitor KPIs, chair production meetings and debriefs, identify trends, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate shift, incident, MMS, and performance reporting.

People and capability

  • Provide line management for Fault Controllers, FLRTs, ECC staff, and System Monitoring Analysts.
  • Oversee competency cycles, assessments, training compliance, skills-gap analysis, and development planning.
  • Support mentoring, coaching, recruitment, succession planning, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Promote communication, engagement, collaboration, wellbeing, and a high-performing team culture.

Stakeholder and financial focus

  • Coordinate stakeholders and provide timely updates during fault management and RCM activities.
  • Optimize manpower, resources, tools, logistics, spares, and response coverage while controlling operational costs.
  • Support data-driven decisions, continuous improvement, and reduction of service downtime, rework, and repeat faults.

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • Engineering diploma, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Fault Controller, Engineering Controller, or Infrastructure Access Controller.
  • Proven supervisory or managerial capability in a dynamic control-centre environment.
  • Ability to develop and interpret large data sets, write reports, communicate effectively, and manage competing priorities.
  • Understanding of safety management systems and QHSE compliance.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Desirable experience and tools

  • Five years of asset maintenance experience in railway or similar industrial systems is desirable.
  • Control-centre experience related to metro railway fault or operations control is desirable.
  • Experience in railway, transport, utilities, or another safety-critical regulated industry is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Maximo MMS, Power BI dashboards, basic tools, and Microsoft Office is required in the listed qualifications.

Technical competencies

  • Manage, prioritize, and resolve P1–P4 live faults, including escalation, coordination, and service recovery.
  • Use control-room systems, OCC/ECC operations, alarm management, and real-time monitoring for operational decisions.
  • Interpret RCM data and subsystem diagnostics to identify emerging failures and support proactive maintenance.
  • Use MMS for fault logging, work orders, failure coding, reporting, data quality, and traceability.
  • Analyze response metrics, performance trends, and KPI data to support continuous improvement.

Operating challenges

Make rapid decisions during concurrent incidents while balancing service recovery, safety, compliance, and quality.

Maintain performance, staffing, competence, fatigue management, and team wellbeing across a 24/7 environment.

Balance operational delivery with governance, accurate reporting, stakeholder coordination, and measurable improvement benefits.
