Position: Lead Fabric Pipeline & Semantic Engineer (PBI Admin)
Status: Funded
Anticipated Salary: $107,000 - $165,000
Knowesis is seeking a skilled Lead Fabric Pipeline & Semantic Engineer (PBI Admin) to join our team, supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of Inspector General (OIG).
The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and administering enterprise data fabric, data pipelines, semantic models, and Power BI environments that support OIG oversight activities.
The candidate will integrate raw data sources with executive-facing analytics architectures, develop scalable Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers, build automated orchestration pipelines, and construct and optimize centralized semantic models.
This position requires a Secret Clearance and applicants must possess U.S.
Citizenship without the need for sponsorship, both now and in the future.

Citizenship will not be considered due to the position’s security clearance requirements.
The Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Enterprise Data Fabric Architecture: Design and maintain scalable Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers within a Medallion Lakehouse architecture and integrate raw data sources with executive-facing analytics architectures.
- Data Pipeline Development: Build and orchestrate batch or streaming data pipelines using ETL software such as Azure Data Factory, PySpark, and Spark notebooks; implement automated ingestion, transformation, storage, monitoring, and fault-tolerance processes.
- Semantic Modeling: Develop advanced dimensional data models, including star schemas, and construct and curate enterprise-scale semantic models using T-SQL and DAX for Power BI in-memory and DirectQuery modes.
- Power BI Platform Administration: Administer the Power BI platform and data fabric/BI tenant, including workspace creation, capacity allocation, domain boundaries, role-based access controls, deployment pipelines, and CI/CD workflows for data assets.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor capacity metrics and identify, troubleshoot, and optimize compute-heavy or throttled queries and semantic models to improve reliability, efficiency, and user experience.
- Security and Governance: Implement and enforce Row-Level Security (RLS), Object-Level Security (OLS), sensitivity labeling, data governance, and other Government security protocols across semantic models, workspaces, and data fabric environments.
- Data Lineage and Documentation: Establish and maintain end-to-end data lineage and comprehensive documentation covering architecture, data processes, semantic relationships, security protocols, and maintenance procedures.
- Data Quality and Reliability: Implement data quality checks, version control, monitoring, and fault-tolerance mechanisms to support reliable, secure data pipelines and analytics solutions.
- Operational Support and Sustainment: Provide ongoing support for existing data engineering and business intelligence systems, including pipeline optimization, infrastructure maintenance, workflow automation, and application of DataOps principles for continuous improvement.
- Collaboration and Knowledge Transfer: Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, BI developers, stakeholders, and OIG technical staff to ensure data structures support routine reporting and advanced analytics; provide technical guidance, documentation, training, and knowledge transfer to promote solution sustainability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), Cyber Security, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university. (Specialized technical experience and certifications may substitute for technical degree).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience building and orchestrating batch or streaming data pipelines using ETL software such as Azure Data Factory, PySpark, and Spark notebooks within a medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience developing advanced dimensional data modeling, such as star schemas, using T-SQL and DAX to construct and optimize enterprise-scale Power BI semantic models in-memory or via DirectQuery modes.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience managing Power BI platform administration, including monitoring capacity metrics, enforcing workspace role-based access controls, and configuring deployment pipelines for CI/CD management.
- Experience designing and maintaining scalable Medallion Lakehouse data layers and automated orchestration pipelines.
- Experience with enterprise semantic modeling, data lineage, RLS/OLS, sensitivity labeling, and data governance.
- Experience with data quality checks, version control, fault tolerance, monitoring, pipeline optimization, and DataOps practices.
- Strong problem-solving, technical communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
- Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Security+ certification.
- Relevant Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Data Engineering, or data platform certification.
- Experience working with the Department of Defense (DoD) or government agencies.
- Experience supporting enterprise data fabric, Power BI tenant administration, capacity management, and governed self-service BI environments.
