Role Overview
Lead the design, delivery, modernization, and operational management of enterprise data platforms, databases, data warehouses, and data engineering solutions.
Provide technical leadership across data engineering, database administration, cloud data platforms, and data warehouse operations.
Partner with data engineering, DBA, cloud engineering, SRE, security, analytics, and business teams.
Technical Leadership
- Define architecture standards, engineering best practices, and platform governance.
- Design secure, scalable, high-performance data solutions across cloud and on-premise environments.
- Lead design reviews, solution assessments, modernization initiatives, and engineer mentoring.
Data Engineering and Warehousing
- Design and oversee ETL/ELT and CDC pipelines across relational, NoSQL, SaaS, and cloud platforms.
- Optimize warehouses, lakehouses, and analytical solutions using Snowflake, Databricks, Apache Iceberg, and Amazon S3.
- Ensure data quality, reliability, observability, and operational readiness.
Database and Platform Management
- Oversee PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, Aurora MySQL, MongoDB Atlas, and DynamoDB environments.
- Ensure availability, performance, security, backup, recovery, replication, and capacity planning.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, incident response, disaster recovery, and operational processes.
Projects and Optimization
- Plan and deliver projects while tracking dependencies, risks, milestones, blockers, and capacity.
- Lead legacy-to-cloud modernization, proof-of-concepts, cost optimization, and technical debt reduction.
- Improve runbooks, service reliability, platform utilization, and operational efficiency.
People and Stakeholders
- Coordinate with data, DBA, SRE, cloud, security, BI, and application teams.
- Provide stakeholder updates, align priorities, and support workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, and succession planning.
- Conduct performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, and career development activities.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, database engineering, data warehousing, or related disciplines.
- Strong experience with Python, SQL, PySpark, ETL/ELT, and CDC-based architectures.
- Experience with AWS data services, modern analytics platforms, Agile delivery, CI/CD, GitLab, and Terraform.
- Experience leading technical teams, cross-functional projects, incidents, RCAs, service reliability, and production support.
