Position Summary
CVS Health is seeking a Lead Director of Software Engineering.
The role sets technical direction, drives delivery, and leads a large-scale engineering organization.
The position emphasizes production-grade generative AI, agentic workflows, and engineering automation.
Responsibilities
- Drive technical strategy across an organization of approximately 50 to 150 or more engineers.
- Set architectural standards and engineering excellence benchmarks.
- Embed LLMs, generative AI, agentic workflows, and machine learning automation into engineering delivery.
- Own delivery outcomes and maintain execution velocity.
- Partner with product, data, and healthcare business leaders on engineering investments.
- Challenge architectural debt and infeasible timelines while advocating for appropriate investment.
Required Qualifications
- At least 10 years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5 or more years leading large-scale engineering organizations.
- Experience building and scaling systems serving tens of thousands of users.
- Hands-on expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern backend engineering at scale.
- Production AI platform ownership covering deployment pipelines, vector databases, RAG, LLM orchestration, inference optimization, and responsible AI.
- Experience migrating monoliths to microservices and modernizing legacy platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare or highly regulated domain experience, including HIPAA, CMS compliance, or PHI data handling.
- Platform engineering ownership involving internal developer platforms and engineering productivity tooling.
Pay Range
- The stated pay range is $144,200 to $288,400.
- The role may also be eligible for a bonus, commission or short-term incentive program, and an equity award target.
