Job Purpose
- The purpose of a Medical Laboratory Manager is to oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring efficient and accurate processing of diagnostic tests.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day to day operations of the laboratory, ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic test results.
- Manage and supervise laboratory staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including local and international accreditation standards, safety protocols, and quality control measures.
- Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures to maintain efficient and high quality service.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Manage inventory and procurement of laboratory supplies and reagents, ensuring cost effective use and minimal waste.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to interpret test results and assist with clinical decision making.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and manage the laboratory’s budget, including expense tracking and cost control measures.
- Address and resolve any issues or concerns regarding laboratory operations, personnel, or patient care.
- Stay current with advances in laboratory technology, testing procedures, and medical practices to enhance laboratory services.
- Facilitate continuous education and training programs for laboratory staff to ensure skill development and professional growth.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure the overall effectiveness of laboratory services in meeting the hospital’s clinical and operational goals.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with hospital leadership, medical staff, and external stakeholders.
- Manage the laboratory's adherence to hospital policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and values.
- Oversee the laboratory's contribution to patient care by ensuring accurate, timely diagnostic results and services.
- Lead efforts to enhance laboratory performance through process improvements, staff development, and technology adoption.
- Ensure the laboratory maintains a high level of patient confidentiality and complies with all relevant data privacy regulations.
- Represent the laboratory in meetings, committees, and discussions with hospital leadership and other departments.
- Support the hospital’s strategic initiatives by identifying opportunities for laboratory service expansion, research collaboration, and innovation.
