Job Summary
The Instrument Lab Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, and supporting laboratory instruments and diagnostic equipment used in medical laboratories.
The role ensures accurate laboratory testing, proper equipment functionality, compliance with healthcare standards, and uninterrupted laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor laboratory analyzers and diagnostic instruments.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure laboratory instruments are functioning according to manufacturer and quality standards.
- Assist laboratory technologists and pathologists during testing procedures.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and maintain service records for instruments.
- Identify equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs with vendors or biomedical teams.
- Support installation and validation of new laboratory instruments.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory consumables, reagents, and spare parts.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, infection control, and quality assurance standards.
- Follow SOPs, CAP, ISO, JCI, or hospital laboratory compliance guidelines.
- Prepare technical reports and maintain documentation for audits and inspections.
- Support laboratory workflow optimization and instrument performance monitoring.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of medical laboratory equipment and analyzers
- Troubleshooting and technical maintenance skills
- Understanding of laboratory quality standards
- Familiarity with hematology, biochemistry, immunology, and microbiology instruments
- Good documentation and reporting skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic computer and laboratory software knowledge
- Ability to work under pressure in healthcare environments
Qualification Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in:
• Medical Laboratory Technology
- Biomedical Engineering
• Electronics And Instrumentation Technology
- Experience in medical laboratory equipment maintenance is preferred.
- Knowledge of analyzers such as:
- Hematology analyzers
- Biochemistry analyzers
- PCR systems
- Immunoassay systems
- Microbiology equipment
